GM: Building American

In fact, GM has been building cars in America for over 100 years, and today, it has 12 assembly plants, 24 stamping, propulsion, component and battery plants, 25 parts distribution centers, and two engineering campuses across the country.

  • Arlington Assembly in Arlington, Texas. This plant builds full-size SUVs, including the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV.
  • Bay City Powertrain in Bay City, Michigan. This plant produces engine and transmission components which include: piston pins, connecting rods, camshafts, oil pumps, and balance shafts.
  • Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. This plant exclusively builds the Chevrolet Corvette.
  • Factory ZERO in Detroit-Hamtramck, Michigan. From 1985 – 2020 this plant produced over 4 million vehicles. Currently, the plant is being converted to produce electric vehicles, including the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq.
  • Flint Assembly in Flint, Michigan. This plant assembles full-sized pick-up trucks, however this is not the plant which builds engines. There is a separate GM Flint Engine plant tasked with building various engines for GM vehicles.
  • Lansing Delta Township Assembly in Lansing, Michigan. This plant builds the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, and GMC Acadia. Notably the plant is a Gold Certified Leader in Energy and Environmental design due to adopting best practices and recent technology.
     
  • Lansing Grand River Assembly in Lansing, Michigan. This plant builds the Chevrolet Camaro as well as the Cadillac CT4 and CT5. The factory opened in 2001 and is centered around customer responsiveness, safety, people systems, quality and maximum performance.
  • Lake Orion Assembly in Lake Orion, Michigan. This plant builds the Chevrolet Sonic and Chevrolet Bolt EV. Orion team members have built over 5.1 million vehicles for General Motors and set an industry record of continuous operation without a lost work day in July 2008, 10 million man hours.
  • Spring Hill Assembly in Spring Hill, TN produces the Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6, and second generation GMC Acadia. Interestingly, of the plant’s 2,100 acres, 700 acres are dedicated to farming and 100 acres to wildlife habitat which has been recognized and certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council.
